Yoga

My approach to yoga draws upon many years of practice with inspirational teachers, all of whom were influenced by the work of Vanda Scaravelli. I see my approach to this work as a process of getting in touch with one’s own body, of listening to it, and responding intelligently. I am interested in keeping things simple - working with the force of gravity, cultivating patience, becoming aware of where we hold tension, developing compassion. In many respects, there is a sense of doing less in order to go deeper.
The meditation and reflection aspect of my teaching draws on my own experience of practicing Insight (Vipassana) meditation from the Theravada Buddhist tradition. I find that this approach which is about cultivating mindfulness and other beneficial qualities, informs my yoga practice both on and off the mat.
These qualities help develop compassion towards ourselves and towards others. We become present to witness our relationship with our body and mind, and how we relate to others. Yoga and meditation allows us the space to notice, and in so doing, support change and growth.
